Location: Located in the southeast of Shaanxi Province, Ankang neighbors Xian in the north, and shares boundary with Hubei Province in the east, Sichuan Province in the south. The city has an advantaged geographic position, at the convergence of Shaanxi, Hubei, Sichuan and Chongqing.

History: Ancient tribes living in this area were conquered by the Chu Kingdom in the Spring and Autumn Period (770 BC - 476 BC). It is a vital place contested by Qin and Chu kingdoms during the war time in Warring States Period (476 BC - 221 BC), and then, it belonged to the Hanzhong Shire established by the Qin Dynasty (221 BC - 206 BC).

Physical Features: Ankang lies at the north foot of the Daba Mountain, south of the Qinling Mountains. The Han River flows through the city from the west to the east. The highest point of Ankang is in the eastern part of the Qinling Mountains with an altitude of 2,965 meters (9,728 feet), while the lowest is in the outlet of the Han River from the city's territory, only 170 meters (558 feet) above the sea level.

Climatic Features: Having a subtropical continental monsoon climate, the weather is warm but dry in spring and overcast and rainy in autumn. Summer is rainy and may be attached by drought, while the winter is chilly, seldom rainy and snowy.

When to Go: Warm spring and cool autumn are the best seasons to Ankang.

Scenic Spots:
Xiangxi Cave: Located in the southern suburb of Ankang City, the scenic spot can be reached within 30 minutes from the city proper. It is made up of five scenic districts. The Xiangxi Cave is a garden scenic area boasting flourishing vegetation and ancient Tang (618-907) buildings repaired in Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties.
Yinghu Lake: The lake is 18 kilometers (11 miles) southwest of the city downtown, formed by the construction of Ankang Hydropower Station on the Han River. As the largest artificial lake in Northwest China, it also has pavilions, towers, corridors and halls to each other's advantages with emerald mountains surrounded.
Nangong Mountain National Forest Park: The national park is established on the ruins of the ancient glacier and volcano in depth of the Daba Mountain. Spectacular peaks, verdant forests, strange stones, cloud seas, springs and streams constitute the main landscapes of the scenic area.
