Wenchuan county in Sichuan Province announced October 22 that the Sanjiang Eco-Tourism District was reopened to the public, the first tourist resort reopening in the county after the May 12 Wenchuan earthquake in 2008.
The Sanjiang Eco-Tourism District, which includes a park for pandas and
Chinese dove trees, is located in Sanjiang town, Wenchuan county, on the edge of
Wolong National Natural Reserve. In the district, visitors can enjoy the natural
scenery, Tibetan and Qiang culture, and the Tea-Horse Trade Route restored to
its appearance before the earthquake.
In the reconstruction, Wenchuan aims to develop the Sanjiang Eco-Tourism
District as National AAAA Tourist Attraction. With the help of Huizhou City in
Guangdong Province, the resort has been completely restored with improved
facilities and service. A forest of Chinese dove trees with an area of 20 square
kilometers in the resort is now featured in an application to the UNESCO World
Heritage Site.
From now until the end of 2009, the Sanjiang Eco-Tourism District will be
free of admission to the public.
