China's oldest orchestra, the Harbin Symphony Orchestra made its debut at the Vienna Golden Hall of Musikverein in Austria on Thursday night. The concert attracted a rousing reception from local theatre-goers.
The concert opened with "Riding on Wind", a symphony epic created by renowned Chinese composer, Guo Wenjing.
The evening's bill also included violin concerto "Butterfly Lovers" and composer Ye Xiaogang's concerto for traditional Chinese instrument, the Pipa.
Austrian audience member said, Harbin Symphony Orchestra from northeastern China's Heilongjiang Province is the first symphony orchestra to be set up in China. It was established in 1908.
The orchestra hopes Vienna's performance will raise the profile of China's profound music tradition.
