Located on the northern side of Xiujiang River, Zhenwu Pavilion was originally built in 1573 and has a history of more than 430 years. In virtue of the ingenious structure, the three-storeyed wooden building constructed in Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), was listed among the four famous towers in ancient South China. The pavilion comprises a structure of some 3,000 pieces of timber, perfectly assembled according to the lever principle. The four hypostyle columns on the second floor that are suspended from the ceiling and support it, the roof girders, tiles, and roof-ridge ornaments, are its most impressive feature. The Zhenwu Pavilion is well preserved, despite no rebuilding of any kind over the past 400 years or more. Althougt attacked in the past 400 years by earthquakes and typhoons, Zhenwu Pavilion, still rests in a whole skin and becomes the only ancient building in China in good repair without the aid of reconstruction.
