About 2,000 traders from home and abroad are expected to participate in a jewel festival this month in Wuzhou city, south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the city's mayor said Friday.

Wang Kai, Mayor of Wuzhou, where about 70 percent of the world's synthetic jewels are made, spoke on the sidelines of the ongoing seventh China-ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Expo in Nanning, capital of Guangxi.

The jewel festival, jointly organized by the Secretariat of the China-ASEAN Expo, will be held in Wuzhou from Oct. 28 to Nov. 1, Wang said.

The five-day festival will feature an opening ceremony, an economic development forum, project promotions, business talks, a jewelry ornament fair and a joint meeting of China's synthetic jewel industry.

Wang said Wuzhou city was the world's biggest synthetic jewel producer, accounting for about 80 percent of China's total synthetic jewel output.

The industry employs 120,000 people in more than 500 enterprises in Wuzhou, which had an annual output worth 2.5 billion yuan (374 million U.S. dollars), Wang said.

Projects with a total planned investment of 10.17 billion yuan (1.52 billion U.S. dollars) would be open to domestic and foreign investors, he said.
