The 18th International Congress for Aesthetics (ICA) will be held from Aug. 8 to 13 at Peking University.
Under the theme "Diversity in Aesthetics," more than 800 scholars from over 60 countries will gather to share views about aesthetics philosophy, Gao Jianping, general secretary of the International Association of Aesthetics (IAA), told a press conference Monday.
This congress will cover ten topics, including western and non-western aesthetics, the definition of art and the analysis of the concepts of art.
"The congress will be an excellent opportunity for Chinese scholars to understand the latest developments in aesthetics in other countries. At the same time, we will introduce Chinese aesthetics concepts to the world," said Ye Lang, director of the Aesthetics and Aesthetic Education Center at Peking University.
The congress will have panel discussions focusing on Chinese art, art education and dance aesthetics.
The ICA was first held in Berlin in 1913. It was traditionally a club of western aesthetics scholars.
The triennial meeting is the world's largest academic event for aesthetics scholars. The 17th ICA meeting was held in Ankara, Turkey, in 2007.
