Lvtang Village lies in the southeast
of Xiamen’s Xiang’an District. It is one of Fujian’s top 10 villages that is
situated within Xiangshan Hills, a provincial-level scenic spot in Fujian.
Lvtang Village has three well-known attractions, which are old trees,
ancient dwellings and ancient arts, all of which have become synonyms of the
village.
1.) Old trees:
At the
entrance of the village, there is a 600-year-old pine tree, the oldest one in
Minnan (South Fujian) Area. The village, covering an area of about 50 mu (a
Chinese unit of area that equals to 1/15 of a hectare or 1/6 an acre), has over
260 old pine trees, the tallest of which stands at 15 metres. The widest tree is
1.5 metres in diameter. Nowadays, the woodland of old pine trees has become an
ideal place for recreation and relaxation. Tourist walking through the trees
feel like walking in an earthly paradise and forget to return.
2.) Ancient dwellings
There
are ancient dwellings featured the architectural styles of Ming Dynasty and Qing
Dynasty. Most of the dwellings are over 160 square metres, covered with
yellow-mud tiles on the roofs. These ancient dwellings integrate functions of
ventilation, lightning protection, windbreak and earthquake resistance. The
curved roofs make the ancient houses stand out among the landscape.
3.) Ancient arts
Gezi Opera,
Gaojia Opera and Nanyin music are the special ancient arts.
Gezi Opera is a patternized opera with full-bodied Minnan and Taiwan characteristic music. It is an excellent opera tune which is co-created by Taiwan People.
Gaojia Opera, firstly emerged at the
end of Ming Dynasty, is a local opera in south Xiamen and Taiwan. It’s famous
for its various clown roles.
Nanyin music, also known as “string and
pipe music”, is now one of the oldest music genres of China. Today, to better
preserve its traditional arts, the village has set up Xiang’an Lvtang School of
Opera, the first private opera school in Fujian.
