STOCKHOLM, May 20 (Xinhua) -- About 120 Chinese and Swedish youth on Friday celebrated China-EU Year of Youth at the Chinese Embassy in Stockholm.
"Today's event aims to set up a platform for strengthening exchanges between the young generations of China and Sweden," said Lan Lijun, the Chinese ambassador to Sweden.
Lan, who presented his credentials to the king of Sweden on Thursday,said that China-Sweden exchanges and cooperation in such fields as politics, economy and trade, science, and education and culture are strengthening and have achieved great results.
He said the China-EU bilateral relationship has become one of the most important in the world and plays a key role in maintaining peace and stability and promoting common development.
"Both China and the EU are at the critical stage of implementing the 12th Five-Year Plan and EU 2020 Strategy, respectively," Lan said, "This has provided us with a platform and opportunity to deepen our all-round cooperation."
"Interaction between our younger generations is becoming more and more active, bringing vitality and energy to the development of China-EU relations," Lan said.
The ambassador also expressed belief that the activities of the China-EU Year of Youth will help cultivate more and more young envoys who will devote themselves to promoting the development of China-EU relations and China-Sweden ties.
Students from a dozen of high schools and three universities in Sweden also watched a TV film on China's development.
European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao designated 2011 as the EU-China Year of Youth at the 12th EU-China summit held in the Chinese city of Nanjing in 2009.
The event aims to promote and deepen partnership between Europe and China by strengthening people-to-people links and cooperation in various fields.
