Sichuan Fine Arts Institute
――A famous academy in China and a pearl on the upper reaches of the Yantze River
Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, with a history of over 64 years, located at the mountainous municipal city ――Chongqing, is one of the five most prominent art academies in China and the only one in the south-west China.
Sichuan Fine Arts Institute has a very bright history in the creation of art and deep research. Numerous high quality art works have been created by the teachers in SCFAI. In the 1950’s and 1960’, the institute was symbolized by hand-craft arts. In the 1970’s, it was sculpture, especially the most famous group statues, the “Rent Collecting Courtyard”. And in the 1980’s is oil painting, such as our president Mr. Luo Zhongli’s master piece " My Father”, etc. The institute enjoys great prestige both domestically and internationally. These excellent art works have become the milestones in contemporary Chinese art. Since the 1990’s, many teachers and students have gained awards that are both nationwide and international, they also got opportunities to make their works exhibited to the world. At present, it’s been establishing cultural exchange relation‘s with more and more foreign art institutes, delegations and artists, dispatching students to study abroad and receiving foreign students to study in our institute, which result in promoting international art exchanges and development. These outstanding artists make huge contribution to the development of Fine Arts in China.
Except the abundant teaching and creation achievements, the institute has attracted great interests to the outside world by the art gallery, which arts and foreign travelers eagerly visit. The Art Museum is the one which collect the most contemporary arts works in the Southwest China and is considered as the newest style in Chinese arts institutes.
Up to now, SFAI has founded 9 main departments, including Oil Painting, Sculpture, Art Design, Architecture, etc. Every department can receive three-year system postgraduates (M.A. Degree), four-year system undergraduates (B. A. Degree). SFAI has successfully recruited foreign students from U.S.A., Germany, Japan, South Korea, Norway, Denmark, etc. since 1998 and has established mutual cooperation and exchange relationships with many international art colleges. In order to reward the excellent foreign student, except “scholarship of government of Chongqing” which is set up for the foreign student, our academy also has set up “foreign student‘s scholarship of SCFAI”. And now we also provide Chinese Language Program to foreign students who are interested in Chinese culture, Chinese Language as well as Chinese art.
Here, where the trees make a pleasant shade in the picturesque campus, the artistic atmosphere makes people intoxicated, is the first-choice location for many foreign students to continue their education. And all the facilities, gym, football playground, tennis court, network center, student center are available; including Chongqing Museum, the only one which is set up in university.

Campus Life
Overview
University life is not just about studying, assignments and lectures. It‘s also about the friends you make and what you get up to in your leisure time in between all that work. Discover what we offer:
A vast range of cultural, educational, athletic and social activities are available to SFAI students, faculty and staff. A dynamic and friendly environment for approximately 6,000 students, in which to learn and build stimulating relationships, and all with a shared focus on arts, design and communication. SFAI students are drawn from a wide area, with around two percent from outside China. Students benefit from two-site campus in a green field location: the old campus fast and easy transport links to central Chongqing, and access to extensive social and learning resources. The new campus is five times as large as the old one, with well-equipped modern facilities. SFAI actively promotes collaborative working across disciplines and encourages everyone to view themselves as active participants in the community, and to play a role in shaping its identity.
Facilities
Chongqing Art Museum
It located in the campus, was established in 2002, and has 3-floor space of over 7,000 square meters. It is engaged in collecting, displaying hundreds of artistic works, including the master works of Xu Beihong, Qi Baishi, Zhang Daqian etc., the large-scaled sculpture Rent Collecting Courtyard and so on. It also devoted to sorting, selecting and preserving the historical materials and art works by other artists concerned, organizing exhibitions, and collecting invaluable art works from home and abroad.
Library
SFAI Library was formally established in 1953, when the institute was built up. Today it is the largest professional fine arts library in southwest China. The Library’s collection had had more than 355,000 copies with diversified types of resources, such as, fine arts theory, painting, sculpture, photography, architecture, design as well as philosophy, social science, politics, law, economy, history, language and so on.
Computer Center
Hundreds computers fully equipped for professional publishing and operating software such as - Quark, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator are available for students. Free email promotion through the SFAI Live email system to students who have specified an interest in the type of event/society. Short announcements of events are usually available for display on weekly event emails and on the SFAI online calendar.
Athletics & Fitness
SFAI has a strong sporting tradition and has experienced much success through its sports teams and individual students. Many students play table tennis, tennis, football, basketball etc. in leisure time. Some students even reached the final stages in various competitions. SFAI Students’ Union is always interested in new ideas for sports and societies and encourages interest, involvement and participation.

The Guest House is also served breakfast and lunch. There are two students dinning halls nearby the Guest House. Prices are very competitive for a choice of food to suit most tastes and dietary requirements-from hot meals to snacks and drinks; there is a variety on offer throughout the day. Further more; there are plenty of pubs, cafes, bars and restaurants in the local area.
Health & Well-being
Students will be required submit a full medical report completed by their physician with their application. Students at SFAI will be taken a health examination as international travelers by Entry-exit Inspection and Quarantine the People’s Republic of China as soon as your arrival. And then you must take out Comprehensive Insurance of Foreign Students if you have not got any valid insurance before.
Student Union
It is said that university is where you will meet your lifetime friends, and where better to meet them than at the many events and activities organized by the Student’ Union. The Union aims to provide everything you will need as a student outside of your lecture. There are great facilities on campus that provide a place to relax and enjoy your time here. The Union‘s executive acts as representatives on student issues to SFAI management, as well as organizing on and off campus social activities and major events. Most importantly, SFAI is the only Specialist College with a branch on campus of the Student Industrial Society, which offers advice, workshops and other practical support to help students develop their employability skills.
Bookshop & Art Store
There are many bookshops and art sores around the campus where students can buy studio materials and equipment at discounted rates. Local shops are close by with shops, markets, banks, post office, cafés and bars are just a 10-minute walk away.
Shopping & Leisure
Also close by are the National Sports Stadium and Pacific Plaza, which has a large modern shopping center, sports and leisure complex, restaurants, bars and clubs.
Central Chongqing and everything it has to offer is just 22 minutes by light rail at Yangjiaping Dist. where our institute located. About Chongqing
We are located in the nation‘s fourth municipal city Chongqing, a modern city with an ancient history spanning more than 3,000 years. Chongqing is a port city with the largest area and population in China. It has an area of 82,400 square kilometers and share borders with the provinces of Hubei, Hunan,Guizhou, Sichuan and Shanxi. It is called a mountain city and fog city, situated in the upper reaches of the YangtZe River, at the confluence of YangtZe and Jialing Rivers exactly. It encompasses within its borders a great wealth of water reserves, mineral resources, dense forests and abundant flora and fauna. Being the focal point of the unique Yangtze Three Gorges tourist industry, Chongqing is a tourist attraction as well as being a commercial city.
