Sports and Cultural Competition for Overseas Students in Yangzhou

From May 19th to 21st, HUST student athletes’ delegation participated in Sports and Cultural Competition for Overseas Students in China’s Southeast Region, which was held in Yangzhou University, Jiangsu Province. This sports competition is initiated by China’s Ministry of Education, and co-organized by University Students Sports Association. HUST delegation put 100% efforts and fought fiercely and achieved desirable results in the competition.


10 International and Chinese athletes from School of Electronics and Information Engineering, Tongji Medical College, School of Civil Engineering and Mechanics, School of Mechanical Science and Engineering, etc. participated in 3-men basketball, Orienting Running, and Sports Talent Show. After fierce competition, HUST team won the title of Excellence Award. Mr. Benjiamin Errol Lightfoot Shakeem from Bahamas was interviewed by CCTV Sports channel and expressed himself that he was honored to represent HUST to compete in this sports game and hoping to have more chances to meet people from around the world in the future and enjoy challenges and fun from sports competition.


It is reported that this sports competition is for the purpose of implementing Outline of the National Medium and Long Term Educational Reform and Development Plan (2010-2020), and to promote Project for Studying in China, to enrich study life for international students. Southeast region included 27 universities from 8 provinces and municipalities, such as Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, etc. HUST team won the 1st place in Hubei province and entered the southeast region to compete with other provinces.
